Come, gather you, people,
And listen to a story I’ll tell,
Of a boy smitten with love,
From Mbooni hills.
Come, gather my friends,
And listen to my tale,
Of a girl in love,
From the Nandi plains.
Atop a hand rowed boat,
Was the question posed,
Under the calmness of still waters,
As water ducks waded through.
Water currents ceased to flow,
The breeze came astop,
Clouds gazed in awe,
And rickets paused chirming.
Nature stood still,
All waiting still,
To sigh in relief,
Or resignation.
As he gathered courage,
And asked her,
‘Will you marry me?’
To which she said, ‘Yes.’
